With a new strategic plan, the California Alumni Association is modernizing to better serve the University.

Since 1872, the California Alumni Association has represented Berkeley alumni around the world. The Association offers a diverse array of programs to connect, engage, and inspire our alumni. We do this through our vast alumni club/groups network; the Cal Discoveries travel program; our award-winning California magazine; the sparkling Charter Gala and other signature events; two powerful scholarship programs for accomplished and deserving students; our jewel in the Sierra, the Lair of the Golden Bear family camp; and many other programs.
But we think we can do more.
We're making plans to communicate with all of our 450,000 alumni while continuing to serve our 95,000 members in first-class fashion.
In 2007, a group of CAA Board and staff members met over the course of nine months to develop a strategic plan that will provide clear direction through 2012. We asked key stakeholders on and off campus what we were doing well and where we could improve. Some fascinating and unambiguous themes emerged and are reflected in the new strategic plan. First and foremost, one of the reasons we exist is to support our beloved University, and we will shift some of our programs to reflect that support. Second, we will communicate with all of our 450,000 alumni and continue to serve our 95,000 members in first-class fashion.Third, we will partner with campus administration and divisions to learn how we may best support them and achieve our mutual goals. Fourth, we will invest in new technology and explore innovative and cutting-edge ways to connect alumni to the University and to each other. And finally, recognizing our independent status with no financial support from the University, we will strengthen our own financial and administrative infrastructure to provide the great service that our multiple constituencies have come to expect.
These are exciting and challenging times. If the University is to retain its stature as one of the preeminent institutions of higher learning in the world, it is critical that our loyal alumni continue to support the University, and in fact deepen their support. To achieve this, we’re working to create a more modern California Alumni Association that is more focused and strategic; one that will enable you to connect with the University in meaningful ways. In this effort, we welcome your ideas and we need your support.
