Profile of the Month:
Amber Latrice Johnson Resume |
I am interested in networking with individuals who have experience working with: - Sports Medicine
- Physical Therapy
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Athletic Training
- Sports Psychology
My Background:- Worked as a junior fitness consultant (Fitness Staff) for students, faculty, and general patrons at the UC Berkeley Recreational Sports Facility (RSF)
- Volunteered as a Sports Medicine Intern with Cal Football (2002-2004), and traveled with the team to Arizona for the 2003 Insight Bowl Championship
- Organized and hosted various nutritional health and healthy lifestyle programs for the general campus community at UC Berkeley
- Volunteered with the Health Professions Partnership Initiative (HPPI) to facilitate Science experiments and mentor Oakland middle school students who expressed an interest in health careers
My Greatest Asset is efficiently working as part of a multidisciplinary team on various projects, and modeling a high caliber of professionalism. I contribute strong critical thinking and communication skills to my work environment.
My Last Position was working as an Overnight Counselor for a social services agency. Though this position was not directly related to the field of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitative Health, I gained much experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team. This position allowed me to work with Severe Emotionally Disturbed (SED) teens in a high-stress environment, and exercised my ability to manage that stress in a professional setting.
I Work Best - When I am placed in a group setting where each individual is focused on the end result.
- When I am given clearly defined goals and adequate resources
- When I am trusted, respected, and encouraged to think intuitively.
- When I have experienced mentors available to guide both personal and professional growth within my areas of interests.
- When my work environment is friendly, focused, and fosters professional integrity.
My Dream Job Would Be working in the realm of Sports Medicine with both professional and collegiate athletes. I would like to publish research studies on pain management, particularly among athletes and physically active adults over 55 years of age. Sometime along my career, I would like to supervise a Sports Medicine apprenticeship for college women and minorities from low socioeconomic backgrounds where they may be mentored by health professionals, have access to financial resources, and participate as a member of a professional organization to guide them along their career development.
My Next Step is to apply to an entry-level Master’s degree program in Athletic Training while completing a post-baccalaureate pre-medicine curriculum. After acquiring NATA certification, I intend to work as an athletic trainer for a couple of years before advancing onto professional careers in either Medicine, Physical Therapy, or Sports Psychology.
I welcome any suggestionsand information regarding my career aspirations. I encourage opportunities for part-time employment or volunteer work in the greater Los Angeles vicinity. Please, do not hesitate to contact me at amberlatrice@gmail.com in the near future. Your time is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Best wishes,
