I am interested in networking with individuals who have experience working with: - Community Based Public Health Organizations
- International NGO’s with a Public Health Division
- Local and Regional Government Public Health Agencies
- Mental Health, Geriatric Health, and Women’s Health policy and education programs, agencies, and think tanks
My Background: - I am graduating from UC Berkeley in Spring ’06 with a BA in Microbiology with an emphasis in Genetics. In addition, I took numerous classes in the EECS department
- I volunteered as a Calculus instructor to inmates at San Quentin
- As Senior Social Services Coordinator at the Korean Community Center of EB, I created an annual Health Fair for Korean American Seniors
- I worked at the LA Korean-American AARP branch to help organize and manage a monthly naturalization application assistance fair which served ~1500 applicants, mostly low-income non-English speakers
- As Business Development and Sales Engineer for a fiberoptic company, I managed a 1.3 million dollar account, sales averaging $800,000 per month, and developed new sales with well-known telecommunications firms such as Lucent and Corning
My Greatest Asset is- Multi-tasking and multi-talented!
- Great head for numbers and the “hard sciences” yet I still have a passion for assisting others.
- Excellent public speaker that can communicate effectively with anyone from 80 year old Korean immigrants to master’s students in public health.
- I speak English, fluent Korean, and conversational Spanish.
My Last Position was Head TA for Biostatics at San Jose State University promoted from volunteer TA by the professor after 4 weeks. I taught both undergraduates and graduate students in the lab and led discussion. My teaching section received the highest median grade on the exam.
I Work Best when
- I am interacting with a variety of people, both community members and coworkers.
- I have a supervisor who can clearly explain the goals and objectives of a project and is open to regular communication.
- I have a variety of both short term and long term projects that utilize the left and right brains.
- I have an opportunity to speak in front of a public audience.
My Dream Job Would be working as an expert in community based health education, combining teaching to direct health service providers and creating health policy. I understand that this goal is many steps away, but I am planning to work while completing an MPH.
My Next Step is to find an internship or entry level position in the fields mentioned above as I pursue an evening program MPH at San Jose State this fall.
I welcome any suggestions, leads, opportunities, or information that could be helpful in my job search. Feel free to contact me at: DianaUnaChung@gmail.com
Thank you,
Diana U. Chung
