Profile of the Month:
Hiro Hiraiwa Resume |
I am interested in networking with individuals who have experience working with:- Air quality engineering/air pollution modeling
- Energy issues and related R&D
- Sustainability consulting
- Climate change mitigation
My Background: I graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS (May 2004) and MS (May 2005) in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with an emphasis in air quality engineering and atmospheric chemistry. While a student at Cal, I gained valuable experience through my extracurricular activities as a member of the Cal Marching Band, as a campus tour guide, and as a student assistant for the California Alumni Association.
My Greatest Asset: Whenever I seek to understand a problem or challenge, I always step back to look at the "big picture" to analyze causal relations relevant to the tasks I'm given. While this approach may not be immediately gratifying, I have found that it also allows me to get a much better grasp of what it is that I'm faced with and what I need to accomplish.
I work best in a team environment with active brainstorming sessions. I believe that with correct leadership, this method allows the group members to understand and become invested in the goal and thus increase the probability of accomplishing the goal. I also believe bouncing ideas and questions back and forth among an intelligent and motivated group of people allows for all to contribute effectively and work efficiently. I recognize that in order to contribute to the team process, I need to be prepared in the subject of discussion; thus, I also understand the importance of working on my own to prepare and complete tasks.
My dream job can only be classified very vaguely and vastly at the moment; it would be something that would allow me to make contributions in the area of my interest to a larger "group," such as the local community, state, nation and beyond. Some generic fields that are on my mind right now are teaching, R&D and consulting, but I would be open to other options as I encounter them. Whatever I do, it would be ideal if I could utilize my fluency in Japanese language.
My next step is to gain work experience in my field(s) of interest: air quality engineering, air pollution modeling, energy issues and related R&D, sustainability consulting, and climate change mitigation. I am eager to incorporate my educational background with my interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills in a professional environment.
If you have any suggestions, input, opportunities or information that you feel would be helpful to my endeavor, I would like to hear from you. I can be contacted via e-mail at hiroh@cal.berkeley.edu. Thank you very much for your time, and Go Bears!
Best Wishes,
Hiro Hiraiwa
