Michael Phipps '80 Resume |

I am interested in networking with individuals who have experience working with:- Research and writing
- Publishing
- Historical Associations/Museums
My Background:- History, English Literature and Grammar
- Research and Writing
- Teaching on Secondary and College Levels
My Greatest Asset is that my education as well as work experience has been multi-faceted. My background in the humanities, especially history, has enhanced my ability to think critically and express myself in a professional, clear and coherent fashion. My experience as a teacher has developed my talent for working with diverse groups of people and has polished my skills as a speaker.
My Last Position was as a History Instructor at Notre Dame High School, a Catholic Girls School located in Belmont, CA. Previous to that I have worked at Lowell High School, a College Preparatory in San Francisco, with students of all ages at City College of San Francisco, and graduate students at Stanford University. In all these positions I have worked on my own and as part of a team, developing and implementing curriculum and methodology. I am also currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Cable Car Museum in San Francisco. In addition to assisting in maintenance of the museum and its exhibits, I have recently written a historical account of the cable car systems in San Francisco and its mechanical workings, to be published by the museum in Spring 2006. Presently I am working with other directors on a commemorative program for the 100th anniversary of the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, to be presented at the museum in April.
I Work Best when I am given challenging tasks that allow me to work independently and with room to make personal decisions regarding their development. I am good with deadlines, but would also like to pursue activities that are more fluid, allowing some freedom from the dictates of the classroom clock. I also work very well with colleagues and am responsible, motivated and creative.
My Dream Job Would Be working in the field of research and writing, not necessarily limited to historical material, but in an environment where I could employ the talents enumerated above. The setting is not as important as the work, but I am a fourth generation San Franciscan and working in and around the City would be an added bonus, obviously. I have taught students for 25 years now, and am eager to head off in a different direction, though I would like to continue instructing on some level, regardless of other duties.
My Next Step is to find a position where I can employ my diverse talents and add new challenges and skills to a career that has already branched off in various directions at different times in my life. I want to remain fresh and vital, and no matter how rewarding past endeavors have been, I am ready for a change.
I welcome any suggestions, leads, opportunities, or information that could be helpful in my job search. Feel free to contact me at: mike.phipps@calalum.org.
Thank you,
Michael Phipps
