Alum of the Month – August 2006: Jeff Cawlfield ‘84, '87
Alum named Director of Freshman Engineering at UMR
Dr. Jeffrey Cawlfield became director of the University of Missouri-Rolla’s freshman engineering program, effective July 1, due to his exemplary experience with both freshman students and campus administration.
Freshmen engineering is one of the largest programs at UMR providing academic advising and career information to more than 1,000 students planning to enter an engineering field.
Dr. Cawlfield, a member of the UMR faculty since 1987, has previously held positions as head of the geological engineering program at UMR, associate dean of the School of Materials, Energy and Earth Resources, chair of geological and petroleum engineering, and chair of geological sciences and engineering. He currently is serving his second term on the Missouri State Dam and Reservoir Safety Council.
Dr. Cawlfield has been recognized with both the UMR Faculty Excellence Award and the UMR Outstanding Teaching Award six times, and the School of Mines and Metallurgy Sustained Teaching Excellence Award three times.
Cawlfield earned both his master of science and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering from UC Berkeley in 1984 and 1987.
