Berkeley, California, 2 June 2007 – R. Tucker "Tuck" Coop has been named the permanent Executive Director of the California Alumni Association (CAA). Coop has been serving in the role on an interim basis since October 2006 and was selected by the CAA Board of Directors following a nationwide search.
"It is an incredible honor and privilege to have this chance to serve the University of California by leading the California Alumni Association," says Coop. "Five generations of my family have attended Berkeley, dating back to 1887. I am eager to continue the great work of the CAA in reaching out to multiple constituencies in support of Cal. I am grateful for the confidence the Board of Directors has placed in me."
The appointment was made following a nationwide search by renowned executive recruiting firm, Korn/Ferry International. Incoming CAA President Darek DeFreece co-chaired the search committee and noted, "The opportunity to lead CAA brought forward a number of highly-qualified applicants. Tuck's experience and his passion for Cal made him the clear choice to help our organization meet its challenges and achieve its goals. He's the right person at the right time."
CAA is a non-profit corporation, self-funded and independent of the University of California. Service and support are provided to Cal through an array of programs and services including student scholarships, legislative-advocacy, the award-winning California magazine, and more. "We are lucky to get a new Executive Director with the demonstrated management expertise of Tuck Coop," notes outgoing CAA President Debbie Cole. "Tuck has the full confidence of the CAA board and the charge to lead the organization forward as we continue our 135-year tradition of service to Cal and its alumni."
Founded in 1872, the California Alumni Association represents more than half-million alumni and friends of the University of California, Berkeley.
