Engaging Alumni and Student Communities of Color
RECRUITING UNDERREPRESENTED MINORITY STUDENTS
Volunteer Opportunity: Alumni of color are needed to help recruit prospective students in the fall (prior to the application deadline) and spring (after acceptances are sent out). We are particularly interested in alumni from underrepresented groups (African American, Chicano Latino, Native American) and alumni who speak a second language (Spanish, Vietnamese, Hmong, Cantonese, etc.) to communicate with parents who do not speak English.
If you are interested in volunteering at one of our Welcome to Cal Student Receptions, please contact erin.proudfoot@alumni.berkeley.edu or visit: CAA Student Outreach Program.
Past Volunteer Opportunities:
YES Berkeley! 2008 YES Berkeley! aimed to have all 380 Black student admits contacted by an alum to discuss their Cal experience, answer any questions, and/or direct them to campus resources. Spring 2008 was the pilot year, 76 Black alumni volunteers contacted an average of five students each. The alumni had high praises for the program - next year YES Berkeley! will expand to include Chicano/Latino alumni and student admits.
Spring Yield Receptions April 2008
This past April, CAA, Admissions and Alumni Groups organized receptions for newly admitted students throughout the state of California and in several out-of-state locations. Click here for a list of yield receptions.
NETWORKING BETWEEN UNDERPRESENTED MINORITY STUDENTS AND ALUMNI
