Jefferson Coombs has been involved with helping Berkeley and its alumni from the moment he graduated. He went to work for CAA in 1989, immediately improving communications and linking members through events and charter clubs.

Coombs had been a staffer at CAA's Lair of the Golden Bear as an undergrad and that drew him to other CAA endeavors. After he moved into advertising, he joined the board for the Young Alumni Council. He was a member of the CAA Board of Directors, and from 2005 to 2007 he served on the UC Board of Regents. Most recently, he chaired the 20th reunion of his class. On October 10, 2011, Coombs began his tenure as CAA's Executive Director.
