From a trickle in the alpine meadows of western Canada, the Columbia River flows through forested hills and down desert canyons. Joined by the Snake River, it gains force, passing snow-covered mountains, on its 1,200- mile journey to the sea. This is the grand gateway to the West, pioneered by Lewis and Clark, roamed by fur traders, and traversed by courageous settlers as they forged the Oregon Trail. Our nimble expedition ship enables us to travel from the mouth of the Columbia all the way inland to Idaho, more than 450 miles upstream.
Historians and Naturalists share their expertise through informal talks, Zodiac explorations to remote side canyons and kayaking excursions. Professor Emeritus Tom Barnes will provide fascinating commentary on Lewis and Clark.
