Vietnam

In southern Vietnam explore the tributaries and floating markets of the vital Mekong Delta. In spirited, cosmopolitan Saigon, see the Reunification Palace, the History Museum and the underground Cu Chi Tunnels utilized during the war.

 

 

About the Lecturers

Departure I: Dr. Patrick Hatcher
Dr. Hatcher served in Vietnam in 1968. He later came to Berkeley & earned his Ph.D in History at CAL. He turned his dissertation into his first book, The Suicide of an Elite, a study of the U.S. in Vietnam.

Departure II: Richard Sterling
Richard Sterling is known as the "Indiana Jones of Gastronomy" for his willingness to go anywhere and court any danger for the sake of a good meal. He is the author of several well-known travel books, among them, Vietnam & Angkor Wat, Eyewitness Guide; Dining with Headhunters; The Fearless Diner; and the award winning Travelers' Tales: A Taste of the Road. Sterling has also authored the first edition of Lonely Planet's World Food Vietnam. He has been honoured by the James Beard Foundation for his food writing, and by the Lowell Thomas awards for his travel literature. Sterling is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
