Today is the day your semester would end if private donors like Cal alumni did not give to the University.
This year, private gifts to UC Berkeley from donors such as Cal alumni have again surpassed state funding — approximately $410 million to $206 million. On this day, the Student Alumni Relations Council provides you the opportunity to take action by expressing gratitude to alumni and advocating for the state to increase their support for UC Berkeley.
Every day, donors to Cal give $1 million on average to offset the costs of a student’s education.
By promoting student support of our alma mater during these hard political and financial times, the Student Alumni Relations Council hopes to add a new layer of complexity to the contentious funding debate and advocate for positive change. Philanthropic support is not a replacement for the decline in state funding. Rather, we need to highlight and appreciate the generosity of our alumni as we continue to push for the State to increase its support for our University. Together, we can ensure that UC Berkeley remains excellent into the future.
