Participants can register for one of two sessions:
The Overnight Stay Program (OSP) is an event hosted by the Leadership Award Scholars Association (LASA) every April. The program allows high school seniors who have been accepted to Cal to visit the UC Berkeley campus for a 24-hour insider experience of what Cal has to offer its students. OSP gives these admitted high school students the opportunity to experience life as a Cal student by visiting classrooms, staying in the dormitories, and learning about campus resources.
OSP is a completely student-run program that is overseen by the Leadership Award Scholars Association (LASA). The program is supervised by the Cal Alumni Association whom LASA works in close partnership with.
OSP will take place at the UC Berkeley campus.
Anyone accepted into Cal has the opportunity to attend OSP.
For students
Dinner for Sunday, breakfast and lunch on Monday are provided for all participants, including parents. For a complete schedule of events please see the following printable links (schedules also will be provided at check-in):
For parents
$100 per student participant (includes meals, program, and accommodations)
$100 per parent participant (includes meals and program, no accommodations provided)
These fees are non-refundable.
Students will stay overnight in the dormitories with a current Cal student. The OSP staff will do our best to match participants with hosts who have similar majors and/or interests (i.e. student organizations, greek life, student government, band, etc.)
Parents must arrange their own lodgings during the overnight portion of the program.
Due to limited space, only one parent/guardian will initially be able to sign up with the student during the registration process. This allows as many students as possible to bring at least one family member. A second parent/guardian can sign up on the waitlist. After the student program fills up, if there are available spaces in the parent program, we will notify waitlisted attendees.
No. OHP is organized separately and independently by New Student Services of UC Berkeley.
The Overnight Stay Program allows students to attend classes on Monday of the two-day program. These classroom visits introduce students to introductory courses that a first year student at Cal would typically take.
Yes! We provide vegan/vegetarian options during all provided meals. The application for OSP will ask for any other special accommodations that you or your family members may need. Please indicate any special needs, including medical conditions, disabilities, etc. and the proper accommodations will be provided.
LASA is the Leadership Award Scholars Association (LASA), an organization made up of students who have been awarded the Leadership Award Scholarship by the Cal Alumni Association. Throughout the year, LASA organizes different kinds of activities to promote leadership development among Berkeley students. Learn more »
