The Pinecrest Chalet is a Sierra Nevada landmark and tradition founded in 1952, as a rustic three-story dorm room with a separate kitchen and an outhouse. Over the past sixty years the Chalet has grown considerably and hosted thousands of guests from all around the world. In May 2009 the Cal Alumni Association acquired the year-round family resort, the perfect complementary sister property to its world-renowned Lair of the Bear summer family camps just downstream.
Each of our accommodations is unique and inviting. Our spacious chalets have full kitchens and sleep up to 14. Our more intimate cottages are perfect for a cozy, two- to four-person stay amidst majestic pines. All guests are invited to enjoy our community areas, including our pool; a den full of good books, movies, and games; and our lodge, reserved for adults only. Feel free to visit us in the lobby and enjoy a hot tea or coffee on us.
Our staff is also unique and inviting! Please feel free to stop any of us at any time with a question or request you may have. We are here to help. We love living and working in this magnificent forest, and we hope you enjoy your stay as much as we do.
During summer and winter, the Chalet offers the Summer Adventure Program, which offers guests archery classes, careful rock climbing instruction, group hikes, guided mountain biking trips, and more. Our Winter Lair program offers a long weekend of snowy fun for the whole family, including delicious buffet meals, child care, and on-site activities for the whole family.
During fall and spring, the Chalet hosts groups. The Chalet is an ideal venue for retreats and weddings. We offer delicious catering, conference spaces, and logistical support, including audio-visual.
We hope you enjoy your time in these mountains, as did the Mi-Wuk Indians, pioneers, trappers, and loggers before us. There’s certainly a whole lot more than meets the eye up here in Pinecrest.
