Welcome to Pinecrest Chalet!
The Pinecrest Chalet is a Sierra Nevada landmark and tradition founded in 1952 as a rustic three-story dorm room with a separate kitchen and an outhouse. Over the past sixty years “the Chalet” has grown considerably and has hosted thousands of guests from all around the world. In May 2009, the Cal Alumni Association of UC Berkeley acquired the year-round family resort as the perfect complementary sister property to its world-renowned Lair of the Golden Bear summer family camps just downstream.
Each of our accommodations is unique and inviting. Our chalets have full kitchens and sleep up to 14. Our more intimate cottages are perfect for a cozy two- to four-person stay amidst majestic pines. All guests are invited to enjoy our community areas, including our pool; den full of good books, games, and movies. Or feel free to visit us in the lobby and enjoy a hot drink on us.
Our staff is also unique and inviting! Please feel free to stop any of us at any time with a question or request you may have. We are here to help. We love living and working in this magnificent forest, and we hope you enjoy your stay as much as we do.
In the winter, enjoy a cozy stay in our cabins while the snow season begins, and take advantage of the proximity of nearby Dodge Ridge Ski Resort. Winter Lair begins in December, and offers long weekends of snowy fun for the whole family, including delicious buffet meals, childcare, and on-site activities for the whole family.
During summer and winter the Chalet Adventure Shack offers outdoor experiences. Our summer adventure program offers enriching experiences in nature with two-hour courses in wilderness survival, archery, rock-climbing, fly fishing, and mountain biking.
During fall and spring the Chalet hosts groups. We offer delicious catering, several conference spaces, and logistical support, including audio-visual. The Chalet is a unique and beautiful venue for family reunions, weddings, and corporate/organizational retreats.
I hope you enjoy your time in these mountains, as did the Mi-Wuk Indians, pioneers, trappers, and loggers before us. There’s certainly a whole lot more than meets the eye up in these mountains.
Thank you for being part of our Pinecrest Chalet history.
