Event Support Assistant and Custodian

The Cal Alumni Association is seeking a part-time Event Support Assistant/Custodian to provide customer service to our clients renting the Alumni House as well as perform custodial duties to help maintain the Alumni House and prepare for guests. Under the supervision of the Sr Director, Alumni House Facilities and Hospitality, the top candidate will perform daily routine cleaning of restrooms and other areas of Alumni House, will prepare food and catering trays including set-up/clean up and refreshing the catering buffet during events. The Event Support Assistant/Custodian also provides tech support assistance to the event host, and assists with storage management at Alumni House and at our office at 2440 Bancroft Way.  

 Work Hours: 2pm - 6pm Monday-Friday, with occasional flexibility to support CAA operations and events as needed

Supervision and Classification:

The Event Support Assistant & Custodian reports to the  Sr Director, Alumni House Facilities and Hospitality, and is classified as an at-will, part-time, non-exempt position, with an appointment term not to exceed June 30, 2019. This position is a one year appointment with the possibility of annual renewal through 6/30/2019.

Allocation: 100% Facilities (Dept640)

Location: Alumni House on the UC Berkeley campus, and supporting our secondary office across the street at 2440 Bancroft Way
Responsibilities: 
  • Daily cleaning of Alumni House including but not limited to bathrooms, kitchen, meeting rooms including glass doors,vacuuming, mopping, cleaning handrails and drinking fountain.

  • Perform basic gardening duties, maintain cleanliness of patio and slate areas, and wash golf cart.

  • Catering food preparation, as well as the coffee bar, and catering set up and clean up, and buffet maintenance.

  • Perform event setup and clean-up for rental clients and CAA sponsored events.

  • Assist Student Event Assistant team with set up, clean up.

  • Provide rental clients with tech support assistance.

  • Assists with storage management in Alumni House and SW 2440 office.  

  • Assist with inventory management of event, kitchen, custodial and copy room supplies,  re-stock as needed.

  • Back-up for front-desk Welcome Ambassadors.

  • Assist wth cleaning kitchen of the SW 2440 Office Suite and inventory replenishment.

  • Responsible for pest and rodent control.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 lbs or more on a regular basis.

  • Ability to work independently, and with teams, with minimal supervision.

  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and flexible with a positive “can do” attitude.

  • Ability to work flexible hours to support CAA operations and events.

  • Must be in good physical condition.

  • Must be able to climb and work from ladders up to 15 feet above ground.

  • Must be able to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Submit to and pass Consumer Report and FBI/DOJ background check investigations.

  • Possess valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • 1 year custodial/maintenance experience, or demonstrated skills.

  • Previous customer service, hospitality, catering and/or event support experience.

  • Experience working in an environment with a high volume of event rental and visitor traffic.  

Salary and Benefits: 

Pay rate is $16.00 per hour and is eligible to participate in limited company-sponsored benefits. CAA staff members are also eligible for many UCB faculty/staff discounts on campus. We have a friendly, relaxed but professional environment, and we pride ourselves on our team approach.
