Student Assistant, Alumni Chapters

The Cal Alumni Association (CAA) is seeking an outstanding student to assist with day-to-day office work, data entry, data analysis, project management, and office organization for the Alumni Chapters Department. This department is one of the largest alumni relations/engagement units on the campus with over 25k alumni actively participating across the country via the 75+ alumni chapters that our team advises and the volunteer programs we manage.

We are a small team that focuses on producing high quality alumni engagement opportunities for alumni across the country. We empower alumni leaders to build networks and communities to bring alumni together and connect back to the University.

Hours: 10 hours per week during the school year (possibly more in the summer), very flexible around classes.

Start Date: April 2017, continuing through the summer if available, then through Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 (at least), and hopefully until graduation.

 Location: Alumni House on the UC Berkeley campus.
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Update the public-facing CAA website

  • Input and update alumni chapter events in the Berkeley Events Calendar

  • Creation and management of Eventbrite event registration portals

  • In the CADS database (Cal Alumni Database System), look up alumni and update their records as needed

  • Update and maintain the Alumni Chapters volunteer databases

  • Assist with setups and preparations for the Alumni Chapter Leadership Conference in August

  • Assist with marketing campaign strategy, creation, and email layout

  • Attend events when applicable and available

  • Respond and compose professional emails; make and return phone calls

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: 
  • Excellent oral/written communication – comfortable with email but also willing to pick up the phone

  • Demonstrated attention to detail – you take pride in doing things right the first time and are very organized

  • Ability to interact with people of all ages including staff, students, volunteers, and alumni in a professional manner

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision on short term and long term projects

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to perform a large volume of data entry

  • Ability to learn, use, and update databases

  • Technical competency using MS Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Docs, Facebook, and LinkedIn

  • Enthusiastic and passionate about working with alumni and building volunteer communities

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull items up to 20 pounds and willing to move equipment and supplies

  • Must submit to and pass Consumer Report Investigation and FBI/DOJ fingerprint background checks.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience with database entry and management

  • Experience with HTML and/or template based websites

  • Work Study eligible

Salary and Benefits: 

Pay Rate: $13.00 per hour, work-study preferred but not required.
