Student Assistant, Business Development

The Cal Alumni Association is seeking a Student Assistant to support our partnerships and activation in Business Development. The Student Assistant must have an eagerness to think creatively and activate potential sponsorships in unique ways. The Student Assistant will also work in conjunction with additional CAA Departments at events that promote partner brands and services.

The Student Assistant must be extremely detail-oriented and be able to communicate well verbally and in written form and able to build relationships effectively with a diverse community of alumni and a variety of campus partners.

Supervision and Classification:

This position reports to the Senior Program Manager, Business Development and is classified as an at-will, temporary, non-exempt position, with an appointment term not to exceed May 1, 2019. This position is a twelve-month appointment with the possibility of annual renewal.


Business Development Research & Activation (85%)

  • Research and identify Cal alumni and potential partner opportunities

  • Assist in creating a database of potential partners and research contact information

  • Help Business Development in fulfilling their contractually obligated activations and monitor activation spreadsheet

  • Assist in the program evaluation process, and participate in strategic and operational discussions

  • Help maintain metrics and reporting for a portfolio of partners. Track and enter email and web traffic via Microsoft Excel, Google Documents and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Events Coordination (10%)

  • Help support the coordination and logistics for partner activation at CAA events.

  • Assist in activation, VIP greeting, photography

  • Help in partner hospitality and that they are treated with the utmost respect and dignity

General (5%)

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: 
  • Undergraduate or Graduate UC Berkeley student who is interested in sales, marketing, or advertising

  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing, Google applications

  • Detail-oriented, acute accuracy, and proven organizational skills

  • Proven ability to build and support diverse communities and interact with a variety of constituencies including alumni, staff, students, volunteers, guest speakers, and VIPs

  • Ability to work independently, and with teams, with minimal supervision

  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support partner activation at CAA events

  • Enthusiastic, flexible and positive “can do” attitude

  • Able to lift/push/pull up to 20 pounds and willing to move equipment and supplies.

  • Submit to and pass Consumer Report and FBI/DOJ background check investigations.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Comfortable using or learning how to use email marketing tools and complex databases (e.g., looking up information, extracting data, creating and generating reports)

  • Working knowledge of UC Berkeley, the Cal Alumni Association or other alumni organizations
