Student Assistant, Scholarship Communications (Berkeley, CA)

The Cal Alumni Association is looking for an enthusiastic Cal student with event planning, writing, marketing, and administrative skills to join our Alumni Scholars Program team. We need support in our programming, assisting Alumni Scholars in their personal, academic, and professional development.  We are interested in someone who desires to learn more about program management and student affairs. In addition to gaining valuable professional experience, you will interact with great staff and alumni at CAA.  


COVID-19 temporary adjustments: The Cal Alumni Association is preparing for our return to the office in advance of the fall semester. Staff will be expected to work a hybrid schedule, with some jobs required to work onsite a majority of the time depending on job duties. Staff will be required to take a COIVD test on campus through University Health Services, and provide proof of COVID vaccine or request a disability, medical or sincerely held religious belief exception.

  • Provide input on materials and content for program activities and/or promotional efforts such as email and social media campaigns, et cetera

  • With guidance and direction from the supervisor, implement a marketing plan for all our events such as creating flyers and leading social media outreach efforts

  • Assist staff with drafting, proofreading, and editing of communication materials and internal documents

  • Create and send out bi-weekly newsletters

  • Gather and analyze data using statistical techniques

  • Provide administrative support to staff 

  • Provide support with event management

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: 
  • Current, enrolled Cal student

  • Ability to work independently, manage workflow, and complete projects in a timely manner

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to write content and ensure brand consistency. Strong editing and proofreading skills; Working knowledge of the English language, including grammar, syntax, and punctuation.

  • Ability to ensure CAA brand consistency.

  • Ability to learn and use email marketing tools and complex databases

  • Ability to implement online marketing plans and messaging via email, social media, and website.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and Word), Google Apps

  • Proficient with Excel (including filters, formulas, Power Query)

  • Ability to learn and use EventBrite or other event management tools

  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in work schedule to permit evening and weekend commitments

  • Must submit to and pass a background check including FBI/DOJ fingerprint screening

Pay Rate    $17 hour, student assistant position, work-study students preferred but not required

Schedule    8-12 hours per week
