Content Marketing Associate
The Cal Alumni Association (CAA) is seeking a Content Marketing Associate to facilitate digital engagement in our community of more than half a million living Cal alumni. The Content Marketing Associate’s key responsibilities include managing CAA’s social media calendar; creating social media, blog posts, and email content; and contributing to our flagship alumni email newsletter. Our ideal candidate uses data-powered insights to direct their work, creating written and visual experiences that connect, inspire, and engage.
CAA is a mid-sized, dynamic, and multifaceted nonprofit organization committed to providing programs and services that keep Cal alumni of all ages and interests connected to UC Berkeley and to each other. Our programs include an award-winning magazine, scholarships, alumni career services, events, family camp, travel, and more.
SUPERVISOR, WORK SCHEDULE AND LOCATION:
The Content Marketing Associate reports to the Senior Director, Marketing and Communications. The position is located in Berkeley, California, with offices at Alumni House on the UC Berkeley campus. The Content Marketing Associate is an at-will, full-time, exempt position that will work a hybrid schedule in line with job duties and business needs, with some time working in the office and some time working remotely.
Responsibilities
Social Media (45%)
- Create content, interact with visitors, and source user-generated content on CAA’s social media channels
- Create and manage social ad campaigns through Meta Business Manager
- Execute social media strategy, promoting community engagement and growth in key areas
- Ensure social content aligns with house editorial and visual brand guidelines
- Work with managers of other campus and external social accounts to create collaborative content
- Provide occasional social media coverage of events outside of business hours
Content Marketing (40%)
- Collaborate with in-house, student, and freelance staff to produce short- and long-format content that promotes CAA’s programs and campaign initiatives
- Contribute content to The Cal Connection, CAA’s monthly alumni email newsletter
- Write, edit, and publish alumni news and promotional articles on CAA’s website, alumni.berkeley.edu
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications colleagues and CAA’s program staff on campaigns to advance revenue-generating initiatives including fundraising, membership, and affinity partnerships
- Stay informed on current trends and practices in the digital marketing industry
- Edit and proofread communications to use consistent brand voice
- Gather and submit CAA content to Berkeley Online, a monthly campus newsletter
Analysis (15%)
- Using industry-standard tools, collect and analyze performance metrics, contributing to progress reports and campaign postmortems
- Collaborate with Data analysts to identify and target key audience segments
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of professional experience in relevant fields, such as marketing, media, business data and communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous experience writing articles, blog posts, and promotional content
- Previous experience managing social media accounts for businesses or brands
- Strong written and verbal communicator
- Experience using analytics tools to measure digital content performance
- Experience writing and editing basic HTML
- Ability to work independently to meet set deadlines
- Desire to work in nonprofit environment dedicated to the advancement of higher education
- Understanding of the UC Berkeley community, its values, and personality
- Must submit to and pass background check and FBI/DOJ fingerprint screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Skill in digital photography, video editing, and/or graphic design
- Experience using project management tools to track and manage work
- UC Berkeley alum / love of UC Berkeley
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with a pay range of $72,000 – $82,000 annualized. The Cal Alumni Association offers competitive health care benefits, generous vacation and holiday paid time off benefits, and a 403(b) plan with a company match. CAA staff, while not University of California employees, are eligible to participate in many professional development courses, programs, and discounts offered by UC Berkeley. Note
COVID-19 Temporary Adjustments
The Cal Alumni Association is preparing for our return to the office. Staff will be expected to work a hybrid schedule, with some jobs required to work onsite a majority of the time depending on job duties. Staff will be required to take a COVID-19 test on campus through University Health Services, and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or request an exception due to disability, medical or sincerely held religious belief.

Health Care Benefits:
- CAA employees are required to contribute 10% of their total medical premium for the employee and 20% for any eligible dependents.

- Vacation: 16 days/year for first 2 years of service, 18 days/year after completing 2 years of service, 21 days/year after completing 5 years of service.
