Program Manager, Donor Stewardship and Gift Processing
We are looking for a motivated candidate to join our Development team and help build and strengthen relationships with our alumni. The ideal candidate is passionate about building stewardship programs and expanding their fundraising experience. The Program Manager, Donor Stewardship and Gift Processing is responsible for designing, implementing, and operating a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship system that effectively engages and recognizes scholarship and annual fund donors at all levels. This position reports to the Director, Annual Giving and is located in Berkeley, CA.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement donor relations and stewardship strategies.
- Partner with CAA Alumni Scholarships team on the management of, and effective information-sharing mechanisms for stewarding prospects and donors.
- Manage donor acknowledgment and recognition programs, ensuring effective tracking processes for acknowledgment, recognition, ongoing communications and donor cultivation.
- Contribute to strategic planning and lead the implementation of stewardship communications efforts.
- Prepare briefing materials and implement action plans for donor engagement.
- Assess the effectiveness of stewardship strategies and programs, proving and implementing strategic and operational recommendations.
- Manage the preparation of invitation lists, mailing lists, and data reports to support donor relations and stewardship activities for annual fund donors.
- Manage the stewardship budget allocated by the Director.
- Maintain accurate and confidential donor records in the database.
- Manage gift processing and donor acknowledgments for all contributions made to CAA.
- Write compelling content for development campaigns, including emails, mailings, newsletters, and social media.
- Manage the year-end stewardship gift process for annual fund donors, scholarship endowment holders, and CAA board members, working closely with the CAA Alumni Scholars team and the Executive Office.
- Support event planning and execution for CAA sponsored events.
- Collaborate with the Annual Giving team to support Development goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in development with knowledge of donor relations, stewardship, and event coordination.
- Creative, proactive, strategic, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and sound judgment, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Google applications, and development databases.
- Strong critical thinking, strategic planning, and time management skills.
- Professional and collaborative approach with the ability to build strong working relationships.
- Knowledge of best practices in donor relations and stewardship.
- Experience with database management, gift processing, and donor relations.
- Experience in event planning and execution.
- Ability to develop, measure, and report on strategies, performance metrics, and budgets.
- Commitment to delivering a high level of customer service.
- Willingness and ability to learn and use CADS (Cal Advancement Data System).
- Availability to travel and to work nights and weekends as required.
- Successful completion of a background check and FBI/DOJ fingerprint screening.
- Familiarity with and connections within the Cal alumni community are preferred.
Salary and Benefits
This position is classified as an at-will, full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $65,000 -$70,000 annualized. The role is eligible to participate in company-sponsored benefits, our 403(b) plan with a company match, and generous paid time off. CAA staff members also have access to many UC Berkeley faculty and staff discounts. We have a friendly, relaxed but professional environment, and we pride ourselves on our team approach.

COVID-19 Temporary Adjustments
