Student Assistant, Media and Content Creation
Join our dynamic team at Cal Alumni Association—UC Berkeley (CAA) as a Student Assistant, where you’ll contribute to social media content creation and management. This role is perfect for students passionate about digital media/marketing and looking to gain hands-on experience in a vibrant educational setting.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Marketing and Communications, with a dotted line to the Content Marketing Associate.
Schedule 10–15 hours per week, flexible schedule, Monday–Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT, plus coverage of special events (may occur in evenings/on weekends).
Start date ASAP.
Location Hybrid schedule, splitting time working on-campus at Alumni House and working remotely. Remote work must be performed in California.
Responsibilities
With supervision and guidance from the Marketing and Communications team, the student assistant will:
- Develop and execute social media campaigns across platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, creating compelling graphics, editing photos, and writing engaging copy.
- Source user-generated content and adapt it for republication while monitoring relevant campus and media outlets for timely news.
- Manage the department’s social media calendar, research and pitch content ideas, and maintain compliance with brand standards and social strategies.
- Analyze performance metrics to refine strategies and enhance engagement.
- Participate in team meetings and assist with various tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate program (e.g., Media Studies, Content Design, Marketing, Photography).
- Strong connection to UC Berkeley’s culture and history, with a keen interest in fostering community ties through creative content.
- Proficiency in digital design tools like Canva, and experience with social media storytelling and marketing.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok) and analytics tools.
- Creative thinker with excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to cover occasional evening or weekend events and multitask effectively under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
Payrate and Benefits
Pay rate $19.36/hour, work-study required.

COVID-19 Temporary Adjustments
The Cal Alumni Association is preparing for our return to the office. Staff will be expected to work a hybrid schedule, with some jobs required to work onsite a majority of the time depending on job duties. Staff will be required to take a COVID-19 test on campus through University Health Services, and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or request an exception due to disability, medical or sincerely held religious belief.
