California, the magazine of the Cal Alumni Association, was honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) with a 2010 Circle of Excellence Award in the category of College and University General Interest Magazines. Past winners in the category include Stanford magazine, In Touch from King’s College London, and Yale Alumni Magazine. Judged by a panel of peer professionals, the CASE Circle of Excellence Award acknowledges outstanding work that demonstrates the highest level of achievement in the educational advancement field. California was chosen out of 41 entries from around the world to receive a Gold Award for magazines with circulations of 75,000 and greater.

Since 1897, California has served to inform, involve, and inspire readers, connecting them to each other and the University through timely yet contextual writing and art. The publication’s circulation of 95,000 includes alumni from all walks of life as well as leading researchers and California legislators.

Founded in 1872, the Cal Alumni Association (CAA) represents nearly half a million alumni of the University of California, Berkeley. CAA is a nonprofit organization, self-funded and independent of the University. Service and support are provided to the University through an array of programs, including student scholarships, legislative-advocacy, and the award-winning California magazine.
