California, the magazine of the Cal Alumni Association, was honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) with a Silver medal in the 2011 Circle of Excellence Awards in the category of College and University General Interest Magazines. Judged by a panel of peer professionals, the CASE Circle of Excellence Awards acknowledge outstanding work in the educational advancement field. California was from among 42 magazines with circulations of 75,000 and greater from around the world to receive a Silver medal.
Since 1897, California has served to inform, involve, and inspire readers, connecting them to each other and the University through timely yet contextual writing and art. The publication’s circulation of 95,000 includes alumni from all walks of life, as well as leading researchers and California legislators.
Founded in 1872, the Cal Alumni Association (CAA) represents all Berkeley alumni, campus-wide. CAA is a nonprofit organization, self-funded and independent of the University. Service and support are provided to the University of California, Berkeley through an array of programs, including student scholarships, legislative advocacy, and the award-winning California magazine.
