A glittering Charter Gala 2012 shone even more brightly when Cal Alumni Association Executive Director Jefferson Coombs ’89 announced that in addition to being one of the event’s lead sponsors, Chevron Corporation made a $40,000 donation to The Equity Scholarship.
Shariq Yosufzai, Vice President Chevron Corporation, and Bereket Haregot, President of Chevron Business & Real Estate Services, were on hand to celebrate the second-year partnership between CAA and Chevron. Education is critical to the success of Chevron and they have a genuine interest in preparing California’s youth for the 21st-century workplace. Because The Equity Scholarship supports Cal’s eligible underrepresented minority students—including African American, Latino/Chicano, and Native American—the program fits perfectly with Chevron’s ongoing leadership in workplace diversity.
The Equity Scholarship contribution is just one example of how Chevron, long focused on supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education, is helping underserved communities and increasing education opportunities for young people across their home state.
The Cal Alumni Association and the University thank Chevron for once again supporting our Berkeley scholars!
