We recognize that it is impossible to convey every point of view on every topic we cover, so CALIFORNIA Online has created Perspectives, a blog for reader essays.
Since 1897, CALIFORNIA magazine has kept readers informed about the news, issues, discoveries and people of the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2013, readers have answered back through comments on our article pages and on our Facebook and Twitter feeds.
Perspectives offers a way for readers to do more than respond to specific stories—it provides a forum to reflect on topical themes, experiment with literary styles, and start new online conversations.
We invite readers to submit personal or objective essays (from 400 to 1000 words). Inspiration can come from CALIFORNIA magazine or CALIFORNIA Online stories, the news, issues of the day, or campus life. All submissions will be assessed by staff editors for online publication, and those chosen will be edited to meet CALIFORNIA editorial guidelines.
Please send your submissions via email to californiamag@alumni.berkeley.edu. Be sure to put Perspectives in the subject line. Or mail your essay to us at CALIFORNIA, 1 Alumni House, Berkeley, CA 94720.
