HBO recently announced that Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, a documentary chronicling the famous pair’s real-life mother-daughter story, will make an early debut on Saturday, January 7. Bright Lights is co-directed and produced by Alexis Bloom, a graduate of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
“Debbie isn’t from a ‘verite documentary era,’” said Bloom in a June interview with the J-School. “She’s definitely more used to performing, preferably with a script. She wasn’t super keen on granting us access. She likes a bit of distance, and to be in the driver’s seat. But we respected that, and worked around it.”
