Bridge the Gap

By now you probably know that the opening of the new Bay Bridge span to Oakland has been delayed until at least December. But you can still get a close look at it—even closer than if it were open, really—thanks to Joe Blum

As Frank Browning reported in our Summer issue, Blum is a photographer whose lifelong interest in labor has resulted in a distinctive body of work. Blum’s photos celebrate the men and women whose physical labor produce the structures we take for granted.

A selection of Blum’s sometimes jaw-dropping photos of the new east span being built will be on exhibit at San Francisco City Hall through September 27. Tonight’s artist reception runs from 5:30 to 7:30 and you may be able to catch the man himself.
