Lynn O. “Pappy” Waldorf, now commemorated in bronze on the western edge of Faculty Glade, is a bona fide legend in college football, a coach in the pantheon with the Knut Rocknes and Pop Warners and Andy Smiths. Fimrite, a Daily Cal alum and long-time writer for Sports Illustrated, died last May at the age of 79. Golden Bears was his final book.
