Cal Alumni Student Association (CASA)

Sponsored by the Cal Alumni Association, the Cal Alumni Student Association (CASA) is the flagship student group at UC Berkeley for alumni and students to connect. CASA hosts alumni networking events, organizes community service projects, and provides leadership and professional development opportunities and workshops. CASA also hosts annual recognition receptions for its members and the broader Cal community as a continuation of its tradition of cultivating the top leaders at Cal.

Vision

The Cal Alumni Student Association aims to provide students at UC Berkeley with opportunities to become leaders within their community, while also connecting current students with Cal alumni. We aim to be the flagship student group for engagement between students and alumni and to build future dedicated alumni leaders.

Mission

The Cal Alumni Student Association aims to inspire UC Berkeley students to become loyal and engaged alumni through volunteerism, community building, and philanthropy. CASA will be a community of engaged student leaders that will support the mission of the Cal Alumni Association and the University of California, Berkeley.

CASA will:

  1. Provide its members with opportunities to develop their professional and leadership skills.
  2. Be a highly visible vehicle for alumni engagement between students and alumni, particularly young alumni.
  3. Host events that are effective yield devices for future UC Berkeley leaders.

Programming

Overnight Stay Program (April 2017)
The Overnight Stay Program (OSP) invites nearly 800 students and parents to campus over two weekends in April. The program aims to expose prospective students who have been accepted at UC Berkeley what life as a student at Cal is like. Through various panels, resource presentations, opportunities to sit in on classes, and a Big C hike, participants will better understand what it would be like to attend the number one public university in the world. OSP aims to help prospective students make an educated decision about whether Cal is the right fit for their undergraduate experience.

Legacy Night (February 2017)
Legacy Night brings together the top student leaders on campus and allows them to connect with each other and alumni who are leaders in their respective fields. The event includes guest speakers, light hors d’oeuvres, and the opportunity for current leaders at UC Berkeley to share their best practices with each other and with Cal alumni.

Top Dog with Top Dogs (October 2016)
Top Dog with Top Dogs is an alumni and student career networking barbeque that allows student leaders at UC Berkeley to network and engage with accomplished Cal alumni. Students will have the opportunity to network with top alumni leaders in various fields while also hearing firsthand what life after Cal is like.

Overnight Stay Program Reunion (August 2017)
Excited to begin your journey at Cal? The Overnight Stay Program Reunion is a great way to reunite with fellow OSP attendees and start to get involved with the Cal Alumni Student Association! All incoming Cal students are invited to join returning Cal students and alumni for snacks, beverages, games, and more..

Additional Programming

CASA accomplishes its mission of developing leadership and professional skills of current students through its additional available programming. This programming includes the Big Bear/Little Bear Program that pairs upperclassmen with lowerclassmen in a mentorship program, Coffee Chats between students and alumni, sponsored Company Tours with alumni at various Bay Area offices, and Alumni Panels for students to attend. CASA also hosts socials for its members and participates in local philanthropy events as a club.
