The Cal Alumni Association marks the 146th anniversary of the University of California by honoring the 2014 Alumni Achievement Award recipients.

ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR 2014 – WILLIAM POWERS JR.
B.A. Chemistry, 1967

One of the country’s most respected legal scholars, William Powers Jr. has served as president of the University of Texas at Austin since 2006. During his long legal career, Powers was a consultant to the U.S. Congress and the Brazilian legislature, and he supervised a report on Enron’s unraveling that is now considered the definitive study of the debacle. As UT’s president, Powers has emphasized research, the aggressive recruitment of a diverse student body and faculty, and strengthening of the core undergraduate curriculum. Read more »
