Debra Miller Glass
Debra Miller Glass is currently Senior Fellow, Institute for International Studies, UC Berkeley. A political scientist who has been in government, on university faculties, and at think tanks, she has an A.B. from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. from Harvard. She did a pre-doctoral fellowship at Princeton and began her career as an assistant professor of political science at Columbia University in New York City.
She subsequently moved to Washington, D.C. where, among other things, she directed the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS)’s program on domestic policy; ran a multi-agency program on U.S.-Europe trade from the U.S. Department of Commerce, participating in negotiations with Europe on standards and trade issues; and directed for its first four years the bipartisan Strengthening of America commission on the U.S. economy, chaired two by sitting U.S. Senators. Miller Glass received an award for her ability to bring U.S. leaders to consensus.
Miller Glass has also worked at the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. House of Representatives. She has consulted for the World Bank.
She enjoys teaching and public speaking and was an adjunct professor of public policy at George Mason University while in Washington, D.C. From 2011-2017, she taught more than a dozen times a course on financial crises with a particular focus on the causes of the 2007-2009 crisis.
Miller Glass is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
She has traveled extensively through Europe and she loves it—the land, the food, the art, the history. In 2024, Miller Glass and a dozen others hiked though Italy’s Cinque Terre and Tuscany regions for six days after which she was most happy to relax with her family on a small island in Greece. She is very much looking forward Cal Discovery Travel’s the Flavors of Northern Italy tour.
