Dr. Patrick Scannon
Patrick J. Scannon, M.D., Ph.D., graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS Chemistry in 1969 and received his PhD in organic chemistry from University of California, Berkeley in 1972. He completed his MD in 1976 at the Medical College of Georgia and his residency and board certification in internal medicine in 1979 while on active duty at Letterman Army Medical Center in the Presidio of San Francisco.
After his first mission to Palau to search for and repatriate American MIAs and POWs from WWII and thereafter, Dr. Scannon founded The BentProp Project in 1993, and in 2018 transitioned it to the 501c3 organization Project Recover, Inc. (http://www.projectrecover.org). Since then, he has led numerous search missions on land and underwater in Palau and other countries. To What Remains, a documentary about Project Recover and the impact of their work on MIA families, was released in 2021 and is widely available.
In his many missions to Palau in search of these MIAs, Dr. Scannon has developed a deep love for Palau, its varied terrestrial and underwater landscapes, and especially its people and their pride in their hard-fought freedom.
