Professor Josef Chytry

All Tour Lecturers

Josef Chytry is Senior Adjunct Professor of Critical Studies at the California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and Founding Director of the Centre for Aesthetics and Politics (CAP) at CCA.  He is Founding Managing Editor of the Oxford University Press journal Industrial and Corporate Change at the Institute for Business Innovation, Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, and also lectures regularly in philosophy at Stanford University Continuing Studies. In addition he is advisor to the Berkeley magazine Dispatches. Professor Chytry received his BA in international relations from George Washington University, a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in politics and the history of ideas from the University of Oxford, after which he was an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellow in philosophy at the University of Tűbingen. Author and co-editor of seven books, Chytry published Cosmotheism: Cytherean Sitings between Heraclitus and Kittler and The Cytherean Cycle, a trio of classical plays Rhea Silvia, Paris Alexandros, Nausikaa in 2020. Among the subjects he has taught are: German philosophy and culture, ancient classical culture, the Italian Renaissance, the European enlightenment, modernism & postmodernism, techno ethics, and international relations. Josef was named the UC Berkeley Extension Honored Instructor for 2009–2010.
