Vernard Lewis, Ph.D.
Dr. Vernard Lewis earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph. D. degrees at the University of California, Berkeley in Entomology. He was a Professor of Cooperative Extension in the Rausser College of Natural Resources, where he is now emeritus. He is professionally known for his research on termites and insects associated with urban environments. Dr. Lewis was also a member of the United Nations Global Termite Expert Group and recent inductee into the Pest Management Hall of Fame. Dr. Lewis has travelled to over thirty-five countries as a researcher, consultant, and troubleshooter. During the Cal Discoveries Travel 2023 to Egypt, Dr. Lewis will be giving two presentations. The first, “Scarabs: myth, art, and the facts behind the legend.” The second, “Indoor biome, we’re not alone in our homes.” Dr. Lewis has over fifty years of experience at Cal that include living in the dorms, student, faculty, and board member and will be sharing many of his varied stories and experiences.
