TOUR LECTURERS
Vernard Lewis, Ph.D.
Dr. Vernard Lewis earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph. D. degrees at the University of California, Berkeley in Entomology. He is an Emeritus Professor of Cooperative Extension in the Rausser College of Natural Resources. He is professionally known for his research on termites and other structural and household insect pests. Dr. Lewis was also a member of the United Nations Global Termite Expert Group and is a recent inductee into the Pest Management Hall of Fame. Dr. Lewis has travelled to over thirty-five countries as a researcher, consultant, and insect pest troubleshooter. During the Cal Discoveries Travel Tour 2024 to Machu Picchu/Galapagos, he will be giving two presentations. The first, “Butterflies and dragonflies: aerial artisans and skilled acrobats of our skies.” The second, “Common insect found in and around our homes.”
Lewis has published 150 scientific and trade magazine articles and has over fifty years of experience at Cal that include living in the dorms, faculty teaching and research, and membership on several university boards.
