Virtual Coffee Meetups

Every month, we bring together mentors and mentees on Zoom to discuss and explore what matters to students, gain professional development skills, and explore the state of various industries. These events are only for program participants.

Mentorship Virtual Meetup 1 – The Student Perspective

Join our first virtual meetup for the Cal Alumni Mentors 2026-27 academic year! Learn about the student perspective at UC Berkeley to help our alums be better mentors. Students will be able to connect with alums and ask questions about their experience as well. Mentorship matches can connect after the call if they prefer.

Mentorship Virtual Meetup 2 – The Tech, A.I., and Startup Industry with Cal Alumni of San Francisco & Silicon Valley
Wednesday, November 18 | 5 – 7 p.m. | Zoom
The Cal Alumni of Silicon Valley and Cal Alumni of San Francisco bring their experience in Tech, A.I., and Startups to tell students more about the industry and career paths. This event creates a space for alums to tell about their experiences and for students to ask questions directly to Tech leaders.

What is required of participants?

• Join the Cal Alumni Mentors program on My Berkeley.
• Review milestones in the Mentorship Playbook.
• Check out the My Berkeley Navigation Guide.
• Student Mentees: Favorite available mentors in the Mentors tab.
• Alum Mentors: Expose your mentee to potential career opportunities and help your mentee set and achieve goals.
• Meet regularly with your match over the next 6 months. This will help you get to know your match, build trust, and explore what you need to succeed at Berkeley. You are welcome to continue meeting until student mentees graduate, or you are welcome to request a new mentor/mentee at any time.
• Complete the milestones in your My Berkeley Inbox.

Important Notes:

• By participating in this program, you agree to our Community Agreements and Practices.
• The Cal Alumni Mentors program is hosted on My Berkeley (my.berkeley.edu), an online platform that allows students to access and expand their Cal network. You can log in with your CalNet ID, Google Account, or LinkedIn Account (see instructions below).
• Matching will be based on a combination of factors including “favorites” selected by student mentees and overlap in interests and background identified in their application. While the application asks questions about a participant’s background, this information is only used to best match participants and does not affect whether they can join the program. The program is open to all UC Berkeley alums and undergraduate students.
• Matching is conducted on My Berkeley using the matching tool provided and students’ “favorited” mentors. The automation of this tool allows our staff to find the best match for students based on their preferences. We do add a human touch to the match by double checking students’ desired career paths based on their application answers–not just majors.
• Matches will be alerted of their match in their My Berkeley Inbox (my.berkeley.edu/inbox). Update notification preferences on My Berkeley to ensure you receive your match email.
• While all students will be matched with an alumni mentor, alums are not guaranteed to be matched with a student right away. Alums are matched as new student mentees become available. If you are not immediately matched, you are encouraged to use My Berkeley for “flash mentorships” at any time.

My Berkeley Has New Login Options!

Alums are now able to log onto My Berkeley (my.berkeley.edu) using their Google Account or LinkedIn Account if they do not have a CalNet ID! Please follow these steps to connect your account.

Step 1: Choose Your Login Path

• Go to my.berkeley.edu.

• Click Sign up or Login, then select “Alumni, Student, Faculty, & Staff”.

• Select your login method based on your CalNet status:

  • Active CalNet Holders (Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alums with active CalNet): Select CalNet.

  • Alums without active CalNet: Select Google or LinkedIn.

Step 2: Authenticate via Google or LinkedIn

• Enter your standard Google or LinkedIn login credentials.

• If prompted that information will be shared with Cirrus Identity (the vendor tool that connects Google and LinkedIn to My Berkeley), click Continue.

• Enable MFA: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) must be enabled on your personal social account.

Step 3: Match Your Berkeley Record

• Click Match Your Record when prompted.

• On the “Find your existing account” screen, enter your non-berkeley.edu email address (the personal or recovery email address you used while on campus).
  *Note: This does not need to be the same email address as your Google or LinkedIn account.

• Click Submit.

Step 4: Verify and Complete Setup

• Open your personal email inbox and look for a verification code.

• Enter the verification code into the prompt on your screen.

• You’re all set! Your social account is now linked, and you can use it to log in directly going forward.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Email Not Recognized? Try another personal email address. The system matches email addresses recorded in CADS or as CalNet recovery emails.

• Still Unable to Match? Alums can submit a help desk ticket to be connected with a member of the bIT staff for support.
