Student Success Manager, Alumni Scholarships and Engagement

The Cal Alumni Association (CAA) awards scholarships and provides supportive services to about 200 UC Berkeley undergraduate students each year. The Alumni Scholarships and Engagement department provides holistic programming, supporting students from first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students.

The Student Success Manager advises our scholarship recipients and develops programming to support their academic, personal, and career needs. This position also cultivates partnerships within CAA and with UC Berkeley departments such as Financial Aid, Career Center, LEAD Center, and EOP to develop and implement mutually beneficial opportunities and resources for our scholars. This position reports to the Student Success Director. 

Responsibilities

Advising and Mentoring 

  • Assess and advise on the academic, personal, and career needs of all TLA (Leadership Award) and TAAP (Achievement Award Program) scholars. Provide academic advising to scholars.
  • Research on-campus resources and with campus personnel, build a network of support for the scholars through direct service and referrals to other campus departments.
  • Develop/nurture/support a scholar peer support network.
  • Advise scholars in a manner that builds their leadership skills and maintains high retention and graduation rates for the program.

Program Management 

  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Success to develop and implement strategic plans for Student Success.
  • Understand the contract terms for scholarship recipients. Assist with the development and implementation of program strategies to promote student success in meeting those terms. 
  • Develop and implement programming to support the academic, personal, and career needs of scholars.
  • Manage the development and execution of the scholars annual retreat, orientation, and other scholar events as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with scholars for check-ins and program updates.
  • Support partnerships with other CAA departments and with UC Berkeley campus departments (such as Financial Aid, Career Center, LEAD Center, EOP, and others) to develop and implement mutually beneficial opportunities and resources for scholars and CAA.
  • Manage relationships with alumni to support student programs.
  • Develop in-person and virtual workshops and events to support student programs
  • Manage marketing campaigns in Workfront for assigned projects.
  • Support in scholarships outreach efforts as needed.

Administrative 

  • Provide direction to student assistants as needed.
  • Manage and execute all administrative processes and tasks related to Student Success including but not limited to maintaining program and scholar documents in Google Drive,  and developing and maintaining program and scholar calendar, and managing and planning meeting logistics.
  • Develop and implement processes to maintain scholar updates to the scholarship management database.
  • Collaborate with Accounting in the fund disbursement process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in higher education student program administration, student management, and/or advising.
  • Previous mentoring, and/or student leadership experience.
  • Experience and training in student financial aid and leadership development
  • Experience and sensitivity in addressing the diverse needs of a multicultural student population; ability to use discretion and to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Solutions oriented self-starter with a keen eye for details.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including public speaking, preparing and giving presentations, and customer service.
  • Outstanding project management skills and experience.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Zoom, Google apps, and other online tools. Ability to use complex databases and produce reports.
  • Able to cultivate relationships and collaborate effectively with peers, campus partners, external volunteers, vendors, and donors.
  • Ability to assume responsibility with minimum supervision, and work in a team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support CAA and campus-wide events in addition to assigned work shifts.
  • Must submit to and pass driving record, consumer report, and FBI/DOB fingerprint background investigations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working and communicating with diverse and multigenerational groups of people, and with under-represented communities of students and/or alumni.
  • Experience with database management, data collection, and building reports.
  • Experience in event planning, management, and logistics.
  • UC Berkeley alumnus/a
  • Knowledge of UC Berkeley student resources, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with UC Berkeley and/or the Cal Alumni Association.

Salary and Benefits

This position is classified as an at-will, full-time, exempt position with a salary between $63,000 -$73,640 annually. The role is eligible to participate in company-sponsored benefits, our 403(b) plan with a company match, and generous paid time off. CAA staff members also have access to many UC Berkeley faculty and staff discounts. We have a friendly, relaxed but professional environment, and we pride ourselves on our team approach.
