Student mentees will:

  • Be paired with alum mentors with similar identities and career interests
  • Commit to meeting at least 6 times with their mentor
  • Connect with their mentors to learn from their Cal experiences and careers
  • Connect with other students at in-person events

Alum mentors will:

  • Commit to meeting at least 6 times with their mentee
  • Discuss their journeys from Cal to career
  • Connect with current Cal students and learn about their experiences
  • Develop skills as a mentor through platform resources

Important Notes:

  • The Cal Alumni Mentors program is hosted on My Berkeley (my.berkeley.edu), an online platform that allows students to access and expand their Cal network. Alums who do not yet have a CalNet ID (SSO) login should fill out this form ASAP. Please contact myberkeley@berkeley.edu if you have any questions.
  • By participating in this program, you agree to our Community Agreements and Practices.
  • While all students will be matched with an alum mentor, alums are not guaranteed a student mentee if there are more alums than students in the cohort.
  • Matching will be based on a combination of factors including “favorites” selected by student mentees and overlap in interests and background identified in their application. While the application asks questions about a participant’s background, this information is only used to best match participants and does not affect whether they can join the program. The program is open to all UC Berkeley alums and undergraduate students.
  • You will be notified of your match via your My Berkeley Inbox.
  • This program will take place on a semester basis, but you are encouraged to use My Berkeley for “flash mentorships” at any time.

The Value of Mentorship

  • "That [a mentor] was willing… to offer their time and energy [to give] me their advice, support, and friendship has meant the world to me. It has also been extremely rewarding… I can say with great confidence that my personal, spiritual, and professional lives have greatly improved for the better thanks to those mentors."

  • “What I love the most about the Cal Alumni Mentors program is the ability to meet more mentees and the ability to meet with my mentors in a professional setting.”

  • “This is a great program and I appreciate the organizers!”
