We know that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a tremendous impact on our personal lives and on the well-being of our families and loved ones. Today, I am reaching out to you, our Cal alumni community, to encourage our ongoing connection during this time of uneasiness and unpredictability. Our collective support is invaluable as we move forward and face the challenges together.
In response to the continued evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cal Alumni Association (CAA) is taking steps to help protect the health of our UC Berkeley community. UC Berkeley has made the decision to offer remote instruction for all students through the end of the spring semester. On campus, events have been canceled, and many of the upcoming alumni events to be held by CAA this spring, as well as by our alumni chapters, are also canceled or postponed.
Though this is a time of great uncertainty, we remain committed to the needs of our Cal alumni family and to our mission to keep all alumni connected to our incomparable university and to each other. CAA is following the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health, and is implementing the appropriate guidelines. Our employees will continue to support alumni and students through remote workplaces rather than our usual Alumni House and Berkeley locations. The Lair of the Golden Bear is evaluating the situation daily, and our Cal Discoveries Travel program is working to accommodate the needs of our travelers.
For more information about UC Berkeley’s response to the impact of COVID-19 on our university, please visit news.berkeley.edu/coronavirus. The Cal Alumni Association will share updates from our programs and alumni events on the Cal Alumni Association website, alumni.berkeley.edu, and our social media channels.
As ever, we deeply appreciate the commitment of all Golden Bears, around the globe, to our university. This is a time of adversity, and yet we trust in the strength of our university community to rise—once again—to a challenge, and surmount it. As graduates of the top public university in the world, let us be brilliant reflections of the light of UC Berkeley. We wish you and your families health and resilience now and in the many years to come.
Fiat Lux and Go Bears,
