Founded in 1901, the UC Rally Committee (UCRC), commonly referred to as Rally Comm, has a long and proud tradition of promoting school spirit and fostering community among Cal students. For generations, the UC Rally Committee has played a vital role in supporting Cal athletics, organizing rallies and events, and promoting the values of leadership and service on campus. This year, the UC Rally Committee created a UC Rally Committee Alumni Chapter.
The UC Rally Committee provides many opportunities for its members, including cheering for the Golden Bears, learning about the University’s captivating past, and organizing some of the biggest events on campus, like the Bonfire Rally. The UC Rally Committee is also responsible for the university’s school spirit symbols, including the Cal Flags, the California Banner, the California Victory Cannon, the Card Stunts, and The Axe, when it is in Cal’s possession.
The UC Rally Committee has always had a group of dedicated alumni who come together for Big Game, the Bonfire Rally, an annual banquet, and more. By creating a formal Alumni Chapter with the support of the Cal Alumni Association (CAA), they’ve created a space for former committee members to reconnect, reminisce, and continue to support the spirit and mission of the UC Rally Committee.
“There are many different ways in which we hope to create and nourish the Rally Committee community,” said KC Hunt ’21, UC Rally Committee Alumni Chapter treasurer. “By hosting meetings online, we hope to keep everyone connected and allow them to voice concerns and opinions on the chapter.
“We also hope to hold more in-person events, such as picnics and tailgates, so current members and alumni alike can form and strengthen lifelong friendships. These many ways of staying connected will help our members maintain the community they fostered during college, throughout their life.”
The UC Rally Committee Alumni Chapter aims to build bridges between the past and present. Dedicated to honoring, preserving and innovating the traditions of the University while supporting the current generation of Cal students, their goals include providing opportunities for alumni to reconnect with one another and with current members, and supporting the current UC Rally Committee through philanthropy, volunteerism, and mentorship.
“We understand the importance of fostering connections between current students and alumni, helping them access valuable networks and resources for their future in and outside Rally Comm,” said Eric Manzo ’21, UC Rally Committee Alumni Chapter vice president.
The UC Rally Committee has hosted a variety of events with the alumni chapter. These include a post-Big Game brunch to celebrate the students’ accomplishments after Big Game Week, tailgates and happy hours, supporting new member welcome, an annual banquet hosted by the current UCRC, Big Give, and many more.
“I am looking forward to having a more official, streamlined way to keep our alumni connected. I’m excited to finally be able to take the awesome community we fostered as students in the Rally Committee to a lifelong network of friends and family who continue to support the university and each other,” said Alexa Tisopulos ’20, UC Rally Committee Alumni Chapter membership coordinator. “The Rally Committee does a really special job of bonding people for life in pursuit of service to the university and I’m so thrilled to finally be able to leverage CAA to keep that commitment long after people have graduated. Our alumni have always asked about being involved in a more formal capacity—CAA gave us the opportunity to do so!”
UC Rally Committee Alumni Chapter welcomes all former UC Rally Committee members and friends to join the chapter.
