As a double major at UC Berkeley, Alfonso Salazar received bachelor’s degrees in political science and ethnic studies. While pursuing his undergraduate studies, Alfonso was committed to student success, diversity, equal rights and a valid education. Alfonso was involved with many student organizations including MEChA and United Students of Color, and served on a University Task Force advocating for the establishment of an Ethnic Studies requirement (American Cultures) at UC Berkeley. Alfonso has been recognized as a Woodrow Wilson National Fellow and holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan.
As a senior director for KPMG LLP, Alfonso manages, in collaboration, the State and Local Government Practice in Los Angeles. Alfonso leads internal initiatives including KPMG’s Family for Literacy program, developing a partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District; and the Latino Employee Network. He previously served as the undersecretary of the California Technology, Trade, and Commerce Agency under Governor Gray Davis and served the City of Los Angeles under Mayor Richard Riordan.
Alfonso and his family are annual Lair of the Golden Bear campers and he enjoys connecting with classmates in Pinecrest, CA. Alfonso lives in Whittier, CA, and has been involved in many community based organizations including Latino Issues Forum, College Summit Southern CA, and Little League.
