Cal Alumni Association Chinese Chapters Co-host 2019 Berkeley China Summit

On Sunday, October 6, the Cal Alumni Association Chinese Chapter partnered with the Berkeley Chinese Alumni International Association (BCAIA) and other UC Berkeley alumni and student organizations to co-host the Berkeley China Summit. The Berkeley China Summit 伯克利中美峰会 (“BCS”) is an annual all-day conference held on the Cal campus to build relationships between business leaders and investors in China and the Bay Area and encourage innovation in technology, engineering, and business.

California State Assembly member and former member of the Cal Alumni Association Board of Directors Phil Ting ’91 spoke at the conference about UC Berkeley’s historically positive relationship with China.

Other speakers at BCS included Randy Schekman, cell biologist at UC Berkeley and winner of the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2013; and Tsu-Jae King Liu, dean of UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering.

Liu said of UC Berkeley’s relationship with China, “International partnerships…are good ways to allow not only our students and faculty to develop intellectual proficiency, but also are really important to develop intercultural competency.”
