Since 1986, as the first women’s honor organization, the Prytanean Alumnae Chapter has established a legacy of supporting women scholars and connecting generations of female alums. Every year, the Prytanean Alumnae Chapter presents a woman junior faculty member at UC Berkeley with the Prytanean Faculty Enrichment Award to honor their excellence and achievements. Award recipients have come from a variety of backgrounds and areas of discipline, but they all share a legacy of exceptional scholarship and service to the campus community.
Prytanean Alumnae board members and UC Berkeley faculty selected Samantha Lewis, Ph.D. as the recipient of the 2023 Prytanean Faculty Enrichment Award, which includes a $35,000 grant to support her work. Lewis, an assistant professor of cell biology, development, and physiology, is dedicated to service and scholarly excellence. Her contributions to UC Berkeley and beyond are demonstrated in her commitment to maintaining a lab reflecting the diversity of the campus community and her practice of mentoring others, from undergraduate students to faculty.
