By now you probably know that the opening of the new Bay Bridge span to Oakland has been delayed until at least December. But you can still get a close look at it—even closer than if it were open, really—thanks to Joe Blum.
As Frank Browning reported in our Summer issue, Blum is a photographer whose lifelong interest in labor has resulted in a distinctive body of work. Blum’s photos celebrate the men and women whose physical labor produce the structures we take for granted.
A selection of Blum’s sometimes jaw-dropping photos of the new east span being built will be on exhibit at San Francisco City Hall through September 27. Tonight’s artist reception runs from 5:30 to 7:30 and you may be able to catch the man himself.
